Cult Gaia Palisades

Aptly referring to the store as “The Shell”, Sugarhouse incorporated both literal and subtle references to the sea. The plaster walls and floor made from pastellone with terracotta granules envelope the space in pale cream and golden beiges, finished with a technique to mirror the grainy composition, texture, and color of sand. Softened edges were employed throughout, as seen in the interior contour of the boutique, wave-shaped sofa and clothing rods, and rock formation-like furnishings. Metallic finishes, such as the shell front door handle made from a chrome mold and custom New Vernacular mirrors finished in a shiny plaster finish, reflect and refract light around the room. Mirroring the effect of the ocean floor, the shimmering, dream-like quality of the store makes each visitor feel as though they are in a tranquil, underground retail paradise.
